Get Back Your Power: Stop Feeling Helpless
One thing you need to do to be happy is to think that you can change some things in your life. It is impossible to be happy when you feel helpless. Having a sense of control is important for mental health. Getting angry when bad things happen in your life that are out of your control is something that everyone can relate to.
There are some things in life that you can't change. There are, however, many things you can change. These are things like your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. You also have a lot of power over the people you let into your life.
If you feel helpless, it means it's time to make some changes:
- Take care of yourself first. You need to put yourself first when you feel like life is too much to handle. Your life will not change as much as you want it to unless you put yourself and your life first. Let go of all the help and attention you've been giving other people and put your attention on yourself.
- Pick a path for your life. In the end, life gets the best of you when you don't make choices. Picking a direction for your life is the most important choice you can make. What do you want to accomplish in the next one to ten years? Without a goal, there is no way to make progress.
- Think about what you're good at. Direct your attention to the things that will help you the most. Display your strengths to prove to yourself that you can make a difference in your life.
- Cut ties with people who are bad for you. Being in a bad relationship can make you not want to fight at all. Not less, but more, having good relationships makes you stronger. Look at all of your relationships and keep the ones that are good for you. Accept that you may need to end relationships that make you feel weak.
- Say "no" more often. You're wasting too much of your time and energy on people and things that don't make your life better if you feel helpless. If you have control over your life, you will feel powerful. That's only possible if you put your efforts on the most important things and people.
- Get a little taller every day. Take some time for yourself. Find out. Look into what interests you. Get better at what you do. How do you need to grow to be able to control your life?
- Pay attention to what you can change. Trying to change things that you can't change is one of the easiest ways to feel helpless. Do you want to feel helpless? Try to change the stock market, the weather, or other people. Write down everything in your life that you can handle and get good at it.
- Pay attention to your progress. A little progress is a big deal. You can make changes in your life. It gives people hope and energy. Make progress, and it can inspire you to keep going! Research has shown that making progress is important for happiness in general. Check it out for yourself.
